Congratulations to Ryan Jurden (2016) for selecting John Carroll University to continue his academic pursuits and play college baseball!
Going to college and playing college baseball is a big step for anyone, and the Marlins are very proud of Ryan. Below is an interview with Ryan on his decision to commit to play college ball.

| Which college have you committed to? | John Carroll University | |
| How does it feel to know that you’ll be playing college baseball and why? | It feels great to know that I have achieved one of my childhood goals. It feels good to know that all the hard work that I have put forth through the years is paying off. | |
| What is your favorite thing about the college you chose and why? | John Carroll is a very academic based school with a rich athletic tradition. I have always been taught that academics come first, so that's what appealed to me most. | |
| How do you see yourself contributing to your new college baseball team? | I plan on going in as a freshmen and competing for playing time in the middle infield right away if the opportunity presents itself. | |
| What do you know about your new coach? And, how will you go about getting to know him and his staff and what they expect of a new team member? | I know Coach Thibeault is a JCU Alum so he is very passionate about winning there and staying with the core traditions. For what they expect from a new team member they expect me to come in and get after it and compete right away. | |
| What do think will be the most challenging about college baseball? | Adjusting to the speed of the game and playing against players that have a lot of experience at the collegiate level. | |
| How does it feel to be facing your final year of school ball? | In a sense, it is weird that this will be my final time playing against bitter rivals like Newark Catholic and Lakewood and my final time playing against childhood friends at other LCL schools that I have grown up playing with in summer ball since I was 8. On the other hand I am excited to start a new journey and start new rivalries and create new friendships. | |
| Will you approach your final year of school ball and summer ball differently now that you are a committed college baseball player? | No, although it does feel good to have the pressure lifted off of my shoulders I have always been able to play my own game, doesn't matter who is sitting in the stands. | |
| What is the biggest thing you’ll carry forward from the Marlins to your college career? | Competitiveness, being a Marlin you definitely learn how to compete every practice and every game. | |
| What advice would you give other Marlins going through the recruiting process and considering a college baseball career? | Take your time and do your research. Know your core principles and pick the school that fits those principles. | |
| Do you know your major yet? | I plan on Majoring in Sports Studies. | |
| What do you think will be the first thing you do when you get to campus? | Find the batting cages and get in some tee work. | |
| Prediction – how much weight do you think you’ll gain your freshman year in college? | I hope on gaining 5-10lbs of good weight. | |
