Adam Lowe – Viterbo University
What was your biggest learning experience once you got to college? What was different and what did you have to focus on to succeed in college.
My biggest learning experience was everyone was talented so that meant I had to come to practice looking to better myself every day. I had to focus on the little things (footwork, situational hitting, and moving runners) in order to succeed in college. There is so much depth that doing the little things right is what makes a big difference.
How long is your average school day? How long do you spend in the weight room? How much time do you spend at practice? How do you balance it all?
My average school day is around three hours. When lifting, it is usually about an hour. Practice in the fall was very time consuming. We usually left around 3:00 and didn't get back until 7:00. Then we had to eat, shower, and go to study table at 8:00-9:30. Winter practices are about two hours long. Balancing was hard at first, but then we got into a schedule and routine so it became easy. Prioritizing is important.
How has the Marlin program prepared you for the next level?
The Marlin program has prepared me by playing with the best competition. It has also helped me by putting me out there for college coaches to see. The coaches within the Marlin program are very determined to see you succeed.
Where are you playing summer ball this year? What summer league are you in so Marlin fans can follow?
I will be playing on the 18U Marlins team. I wanted to come home since I rarely get to throughout the year. I also have to get my CNA for nursing, and that is a big reason I wanted to be home during the summer.
What position are you playing in college? And what will your role be to your team?
I will play shortstop and 2nd base. I will probably see time at both positions. My role will be a starter.
When does your season start? Are you taking any trips to start the spring season? If so where?
Our season starts February 19th in Missouri. It is a short spring trip where we play five different universities. We are also going down to Georgia for spring break.
What are some of your favorite memories of Midwest marlins baseball?
Some of my favorite memories were playing in the best tournaments. We saw a lot of great competition, and I will never forget the time I got to spend with my teammates.
Would you refer someone to the marlins program and why?
I would absolutely refer people to the Marlins program because I wouldn't be playing college ball without the time and effort the coaches put into me. I can't thank them enough for everything they've done.
What do you miss most about high school sports?
I miss the rivalries the most about high school. I'm just a freshman so I do not know a lot of these schools or anyone that plays for them. High school, I pretty much knew the kids playing on the other team, and that made it a lot more fun.
What motivates you to be successful?
I think the feeling of knowing that the time and work did not go to waste that you put all your effort into is what motivates me. Whether it is hitting a double or getting an A, the work and dedication that was done to get that motivates me to do it again.
