Cole Wilson – Rio Grande University
What was your biggest learning experience once you got to college? What was different and what did you have to focus on to succeed in college.
Biggest difference for me was being away from home and adjusting to adulthood and mostly everything is on me. I don't have my parents here and that is what took me the longest to adjust.
How long is your average school day? How long do you spend in the weight room? How much time do you spend at practice? How do you balance it all?
I just changed my major to welding and my classes are varied throughout the week. Some days are longer than others, but it's a lot better than high school classes. I'm in the weight room every other day for probably a little over an hour and also time in the pool after lifting. Practices Monday-Thursday are around 2 hours and Friday-Sunday are different but usually one of those days is an all-day practice since we don't have school on those days.
How has the Marlin program prepared you for the next level?
Coach Weaver has taught me drills and made me a better baseball player and I wouldn't be playing here without him.
Where are you playing summer ball this year? What summer league are you in so Marlin fans can follow?
I am going to be getting a job over the summer and working out every day after and throwing.
What position are you playing in college? And what will your role be to your team?
I'm a pitcher here and I'm going to be a reliever.
When does your season start? Are you taking any trips to start the spring season? If so where?
Season starts soon only a week away; and we are going to Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky.
What are some of your favorite memories of Midwest marlins baseball?
We had a lot of memorable times, but nothing beats when Z-Mo ate Baileys booger during New York.
Would you refer someone to the marlins program and why?
Yes, absolutely! Coach Weaver coaches like a college coach and puts everything he has on the table for you and will get you seen by college coaches.
What do you miss most about high school sports?
High school sports, I miss most playing with the guys I grew up with when I was a little kid.
What motivates you to be successful?
What motivates me to be successful is I have worked my whole life to be where I am and there's only one time I'll ever be able to do this.
